Writer's notebook- EOL (q-3)
The end of level literacy tests that juniors must take, to test is not a difficult test, but requires a lot of preparation. Students must take practice tests to prepare for the real test. Not because of the level of difficulty, but because failure on this test results in remediation. This year there is more motivation to do well. the schools have offered students with rewards like days off, if they do well. I like this test, and the rewards, it isn't difficult at all.

Book review of 1984 by George Orwell (q-3)
1984 is about the future, which was created by George Orwell's imagination, and it is about what would happen in the future if the Communists were allowed to rule. 1984 is the story about a Communist rule where whatever you do is seen by Big Brother and his secret police. In this book there is a plethora of rules and regulations. There is even a Thought Police which know all your thoughts. The main character is a man named Winston Smith who doesn't like the Communists at all. He buys a diary from an antique store and he smuggles it into his apartment. Diaries were forbiden and having one was punishable by death. In his apartment, there is a video camera where the police could see everything that he was doing. But there was one corner in his one room apartment where the video camera couldn't see him and this was where Winston wrote in his diary. He wrote "Down with Big Brother"! This he kept to himself because he knew that Big Brother would always rule. Winston then meets a girl named Julia who is a member of the police. They fall in love and eventually get married. But such things are not acceptable by the government or society. They get caught and they are separated and beaten until they believe that Big Brother is always right. Someone who Winston beleived to be his friend, helped to beat him senseless, until finally he was broken. Winston is beaten until he not only turns his back on Julia, but he thinks that Big Brother is right and beleives that he loves Big Brother.
